- : Has anyone in the amiga fold thought of looking at the Acorn RiscPC platform?
- : It seems to be in a similar vein to the BeBox, has loads of native software,
- : is really quick esp. with graphics, can run PC software witgh a coprocessor
- : too, has optional multi-processor capability and runs NetBSD.
-
- Has less serious software then the amiga, had fewer serious apps than the amiga,
- isn't as much fun to use as amiga (Ok so that one is just an opinion), has
- less support from s/w companies than amiga, doesn't have decent developer
- support at even the hobby level, doesn't support floating point co-pro's (yet)
- and only impacts on a few v. small specialist markets. And thats just for
- starters. =)
-
- : Also has a user interface that was ripped off by Windows 95 (even to the extent
- : of the "Icon Bar" on the bottom of the screen). It also has the best font
- : manager in the world (anti-aliasing, hinting etc) and seems a really good
- : system that an Amiga user might consider looking at in the short term. It
- : is also expandable - processors can be whipped in and out, and you can
- : add and subtract "slices" from the case, allowing addition and subtraction
- : of expansion card slots and drive bays. Have a look at http://www.acorn.co.uk.
-
- The slices gimmick is nice, although get more than, say, 4 and the machine
- starts to look a bit ugly - certainly not as nice as a full height tower.
- The multiprocessor bit is cool, as is the subsidised PC card. The user interface
- is IMO nowhere near as good as Amy, although the built font anti-aliasing is
- wonderful. And FWIW, the User interface most copied by Win95 is the Mac, with
- the some of the best bits from Amigas, Acorns etc. added on to that.
-
- : Just my tuppence worth.

- and mine! =)
